Computer workstations with Assistive Software

There is a designated area in the Library where services are provided to users with special needs. Students must be registered at the UADS (Universal Accessible Disability Services) to use this library facility. 

Facilities for users with physical and visual learning disabilities.

A designated area in the Bidvest Area houses equipment intended to serve students with visual learning disabilities. There are currently 6 computer workstations with the following computer-assistive software:

  • ZoomText for students with low vision.
  • JAWS (Job Access with Speech) for blind students.
  • One Desk Magnifier enlarges words from books/articles for visually impaired students.
  • Desks have been installed on the prescribed level to accommodate students in wheelchairs.
  • The computer workstations are connected to the printers.

The library also has the following assistive devices available for students to loan. 

  • Sensory PBRW (Portable Book Reader and WiFi). 
  • Pearl portable reading camera and Quick Start Guides [English Guides and Braille Guides].  Freedom Scientific.
  • Luna 8 handheld video magnifier/ Zoomax (USA) Inc. 
  • Transformer HD – Includes User Manual.
  • Acesight S: wear, see and enjoy / Zoomax.
