Introduction to finding print books

In this guide on print books, you will learn step-by-step how to:

Use the library's Classic catalogue to find a print book.

Where do I find the Classic Catalogue?

  1. Go to the Library website: https://library.mandela.ac.za/
  2. On the Library website, click on Classic Catalogue Icon

How do I search the catalogue?

Identify the book's location

Classic Catalogue search results

  1. Location: Campus library (e.g. South, 2nd Ave, etc.) where the item is held as well as the collection (e.g. Short Loans, Open Shelves, etc.) the item is in.
  2. Call No: is the shelf address (call number) (e.g. HD30.28.S87 2018) of the item. The same shelf address (call number) is also printed on the item’s spine label.
  3. Status: the availability status of the item. This shows whether the book is currently IN the library, or whether someone else is borrowing it at the time, etc.
  4.  Only three copies of a title show on the search results page. Click on View additional items to see more copies of this item.
  5. The book can be requested if the book is out on loan, by using the barcode of the book.
