🔄 What Changed in the Transition Process
Phase 1: Planning & Preparation
NMU Library and IT teams worked with OpenAthens to configure the new system, ensuring all existing database subscriptions would work seamlessly with the new authentication method.
Phase 2: System Integration
All database publishers (EBSCO, ProQuest, JSTOR, etc.) were notified of the change and updated their systems to recognize NMU users through OpenAthens instead of WAM.
Phase 3: User Experience Testing
The system was tested to ensure smooth authentication flow and compatibility across different devices and browsers before full deployment.
Phase 4: Go-Live & Support
The switch was activated, and users now experience the improved OpenAthens authentication when accessing library databases.
💡 What This Means for You
- Same Credentials: You still use your regular NMU username and password
- Same Access: All the databases and resources you had before are still available
- Better Experience: Smoother, faster, and more reliable access to resources
- No Action Required: The change happens automatically when you access databases
- Enhanced Support: Better troubleshooting and support options available
