Transformative agreements

Transformative agreements are contracts negotiated between institutions and publishers that transform the business model underlying scholarly publishing towards a fully open access model.

Springer Nature Transformative Agreement – 3-year agreement from 2023-2025

Nelson Mandela University as a participating institution in the agreement have access to over 2360 subscription-based journals in the Springer, Adis, Nature Academic & Palgrave MacMillan collections. Affiliated authors can publish their articles open access in the Hybrid journals.  

Article allowance for 2023 = 1032; 2024 = 1053 and 2025 = 1074 with no APC charges on a first come first service basis for all participating SANLiC member libraries. Eligibility is done on who the corresponding author is. When submitting a paper, authors will list who the corresponding authors are (maximum of up to 3 authors per article). Springer will use the corresponding authors together with their affiliation for eligibility. Full Open Access and Nature Research journals are not covered by the transformative agreement.
