Transformative agreements

Transformative agreements are contracts negotiated between institutions and publishers that transform the business model underlying scholarly publishing towards a fully open access model.

Current Nelson Mandela University/SANLiC Transformative Agreements subscriptions

Transformative Agreements also known as “Read and Publish” agreements are negotiated agreements between institutions (libraries, national and reginal consortia) and publishers in which former subscription expenditure are repurposed and channelled to support open access publishing. The aim is to make published research open access (OA) for all and in the process manage Article Processing Charges (APC) required.

APC’s remain at the core of Transformative Agreements and Nelson Mandela University currently has publishing transformative agreements in place for researchers and emerging researchers to publish in, which will be covered in the following sections.
